Calling all hikers and nature lovers! Theth National Park is where it’s at, with breathtaking mountain scenery ⛰️. You have to see the Theth village, Grunas Waterfall 🌊, and the Blue Eye of Theth. And if you’re up for a trek, the trail from Theth to Valbona is a must-do.
💪 Explore: The Theth to Valbona Trail is very famous and rewarding. It took me about 7 hours to complete, but the views were absolutely worth every drop of sweat! Pack plenty of water and snacks.
Valbona Valley National Park: A Mountain Haven 🏔️
Surrounded by the Accursed Mountains, Valbona Valley National Park is a haven for nature lovers. Go hiking 🥾, peep some wildlife 🐻, and soak up that traditional Albanian mountain culture.

As the capital city, Tirana is a mix of historical sites and modern vibes. Hit up Skanderbeg Square, the Bunk’Art museums, and the Grand Park. And don’t even get me started on the food scene – you have to try both traditional and contemporary Albanian cuisine 🍲.
😋 Eat: Try Tave Kosi in Tirana! It’s a baked dish with lamb and yogurt that changed my life. My favorite spot was Era Restaurant near Skanderbeg Square – absolutely delicious and authentic.

Best Time to Visit:
For the coast, aim for late spring to early autumn ☀️. Mountain regions are best in the summer for hiking ⛰️, but winter’s awesome for snow activities ❄️.
🌞 My Recommendation: May-June and September are perfect “goldilocks” months – good weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices. I visited in late May and had perfect beach days without the summer crowds!
Transportation:
Buses and furgons (minibuses) are great for getting around cities 🚌. But if you want to explore those remote mountain areas, rent a car! 🚗
🚗 Driving Tip: Roads in the mountains can be narrow and winding. I rented a compact SUV and was grateful for the extra clearance on some of the unpaved routes to Theth and Valbona.
Language:
Albanian is the official language, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas and by younger generations. Learning a few basic Albanian phrases will be appreciated by locals!

My favorite experience was actually at Shpella Guesthouse in Theth – the homemade food, stunning location, and evening conversations with other travelers around the fireplace created memories I’ll never forget. For beach areas, I found that booking accommodations 5-10 minutes walking distance from the beach offered much better value than beachfront properties.
